sisyphus rocks

You know, it’s quite possible that Sisyphus might have learned to enjoy watching that boulder roll down the hill. It must have been quite a sight, perhaps at times even cathartic: all that potential, realized. He might have even come to enjoy pushing the boulder up after a while, might even play out eternity, rushing to get the boulder up to the top of the hill as fast as he can, just so he can watch it roll down again.

Is what Milton might have been thinking when he said, “The mind is its own place, and in …

success

Not for me, but for a friend I’ve not stayed in touch with very well over the years.

I just learned that a song by his band appears on the next Tony Hawk game!

I’m so excited! Congratulations, Scot!

been there done that

Apple’s SoHo outlet has won a design award. Nick took Gwen and me there on our last glamorous visit to NYC. It was ok. Glass staircase, whooptee-do.

Added some new links in the sidebar.

Starting to wish 3-column layout wasn’t such a poser in CSS.

homina homina hominid!

When my life becomes chaotic, I read history. It calms me down. When every lick of evidence from my own life shrieks disorder, discontinuity, and discord, history becomes my escape. History offers this magnificent fantasy that the past can be ordered, understood, interpreted, fixed and pinned, spread wide, peeled back, unlayered, diagnosed, and, finally, mastered. Ordinarily, when things are running along smoothly, my preferred choice of escape is fantasy and science fiction. But when adventure actually arrives, my mind instantly shifts planes of vibration, my poles reorient, and I dive into the currents of fact …

a blow against finland is a blow for all mankind

The Nokia N-Gage sales disastrophe, as described by a retail sales clerk on launch day.

(see yesterday’s links list for my first reference to this debacle)

(and if you don’t know what i’ve got against finland, well, you’re just not paying attention. plus, you probably hate freedom, God, and cute little bunnies. sicko.)

time lapse plant growth
Don’t miss the semi-creepy morning glory nutation under ‘nastic growth.’ The sunflower seedlings praying is also worth the trip. Must have QuickTime.

The Next Big Thing…sux.
Nokia’s stated sales figures of 400,000 units turns out to be a tad over the retailer-reported product movement of…5,000. Must have interest in gizmos.

Goddess Juice
Many of you will be tempted to scoff at this textbook case of California gone wrong, and, who knows, you might be right. But I still think the video is kinda cool (make sure you can do this …

24, 27, same diff

Not that I could ever actually stand to be in the presence of anyone who actually used the expression, ’same difference’ for longer than 30 seconds without wanting to gouge my own eyes out with my thumbs.

But that’s another story. You’re here for the pictures I promised in the last entry, aren’t you? Well, let me cut straight to the chase: I have no pictures to show you. I mean, I have the pictures, sure, but, it’s just, I haven’t prepared them yet. Haven’t made thumbs. Haven’t cropped, edited,…you know, prepared. But I owe you an entry. I swore. You’re entitled to something.

I personally happen to believe that loyalty is its own reward, but, what the hell, here’s the eagerly anticipated Part 2 of The Game of Wawa.” (Part 1 is here.)

thank you

Thank you for your patience during this lengthy in-between-posts interim. First there was the Red Sox disastrophe, and then The Beloved Fiancee became very, very sick (but she’s almost all better now), and then I upgraded my OS and had to restart which somehow fubared the availability of my server (which of course happens to be my personal computer*). I’d write more right now, and post more pictures from my BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW DIGITAL CAMERA, but I’m pooped and it’s going to have to wait. Just wanted to check in, say hey, let …
