somebody

Someone lives next door now.
They didn’t used to before.
I don’t know who they are,
I never see them, but
some one of them
listens to the sweetest old-timey
rhythm and blues
i ever hoid.

And this music travels across
the gap of air between our
three-families
and by the time it gets to my ear
it’s flat and tinny and sounds like
it’s coming out of a family-size
AM radio.

It’s beautiful.
It sounds like what a city would
dream of if a city ever slept, dirty
subway chicanery.
The brass is a secret that hides out
in the open.

These voices on air
always offer but never deliver.
It’s why I can’t stop

listening.

It’s difficult to read this article and not become extremely uncomfortable.

In brief: the current administration is beginning to explore the possibility of cancelling Election Day in the event of a terrorist attack.

Teddy Fare

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

-Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States

starts to sweat

Going to be VERY busy with real-life stuff for a bit. Few to zero updates til after the weekend. The good news is I’m about 95% done tweaking this thornography, and about 78.2% done tweaking the other two sections. The pull-down menus all work now, thanks to the charity of Jeremy Hedly at Antipixel. I even went so far as to make sure the Comment Preview mini-page is prettified…

Anyone know a good, affordable wedding photographer around Cambridge? How about a rabbi who does interfaith marriages? And why doesn’t the damn organist return …

boss idea!

You don’t have to like Bruce Springsteen to want to draft him for an event being planned to upstage the Republican Convention on September 1!

Do it! It’s almost like voting.

explorer is for lamewads

Three articles have come out in the past three days, explaining, once again, for those of you who still aren’t listening, why you should dump explorer, what such a choice has to do with anything, and what some of the alternatives are. This is the future value of the Web we’re talking about here, people. Are you going to let Microsoft determine what you see on the Web, or are you going to participate in this democracy?

streetcleaner

every second
and fourth tuesday
and thursday
of every month between
memorial day
and columbus day

he could count on the
street cleaning machine
to come slowly surging
out of the background noise,
a whisper, then hum
then murmuring hum
then a crowded party discussing,
then roaring,
and somewhere in there,
flashing blue clean lights
and tender service to the curb,

a regular ghost reminding.

statement, question

Statement: this is the third night in a row of goat cheese burgers (goat cheeseburgers? goatcheeseburgers? chevreburgers.) and I’m not complaining.

Question: I’ve got an mp3 on my computer that’s Bob Dylan singing “Shelter from the Storm”, but it’s NOT the version that’s on Blood on the Tracks, and I don’t think it’s live. It has an extra verse and the performance actually seems to be slightly more emotive than the album version. Anyone know or care to speculate as to its origin?
