shut down
The Institute has just turned off the a/c in my office. It’s not bad yet, and I’m leaving in 20 minutes anyway, but that’s how hot it is: they have to save the power to keep all the computers happy.
This most recent heat wave wasn’t the longest of the year so far, but it has been the crappiest. It only takes a couple days of 90+ temps and thick ocean-supplemented humidity before I start to beg for forgiveness for all my sins. Good news is: it’s nearly over. The cold front that’s just swept through …

first time THAT ever happened
So I’m sitting in Toscanini’s, an ice cream shop cum coffehouse a block away from my cubicle, just on the very edge of Central Square. Two children sitting near me started practicing their skills at making a popping sound by snapping their fingers out of their mouths. Pretty soon everyone was doing it, six unaffiliated adults, popping their fingers out of their mouths.
Stranger choruses I have heard, but not many, and none so spontaneous.
No one acted or said anything about this being an unusual occurrence.

kentucky women!
This is for the Kentuckians in the audience, who I happen to know are pretty much all….er….both female. But feel free to answer if you feel you can contribute in a meaningful way.
My question is this. Do you think that one hallmark of the Kentuckian is that they NEVER forget a grudge? I just kind of realized this last night, and I’m wondering if it’s just been my misfortune to meet Kentuckians with this flaw, or what. I obviously only mean in the most sweepingly general terms, of course.
Anyone?

I’m still here, just not updating the blog so much. Lately, I’ve been focusing my Internet efforts on moving my browser bookmarks to del.icio.us: I’m now up to 545. Probably have about that many to go, maybe more. And while I’m doing that, I’m not doing much else online, not much blogging, not much flickring. I am thinking a lot though, so I still have stuff to write about. Just not much time to write it in. Plus when I get home, I’m kinda burned out on sitting in front of a computer, …

PlameWatch ‘05: Defective Yeti
Defective Yeti, a so-called quote-unquote “blog”, has a great primer here for the Plame Thing.
Not as concise as mine, of course, but it is longer on “detail.”

PlameWatch ‘05: Loving Karl
Just a little update today, inspired by the fact that everyone’s talking about Karl Rove today: Rove Turd Blossom is the name of today’s discussion (with many links) at MetaFilter, and yesterday’s discussion at the same site (different links) is called just plain “Rove”
Kuro5hin’s also taking about him in the article, “Karl Rove Is Fucked”.
Oh whoop, and look, here’s one I almost missed: Plastic.com talked about him yesterday (even more links).
Yesterday also saw a discussion provoked by an article penned by a CIA classmate of Plame, probably published …

Today’s featured product is Take-Home Montery Jack And Chicken Filled Seven-Eleven Go-Go Taquitos(tm) Snacks! Because sometimes a fella just needs a snack with a really, really long name.
Someone needs to talk to Marketing about this.

I’m writing this here in the hopes that it will help me to remember that I want to write up a comparison between Malcom Reynolds of Firefly with Captain William T. Kirk of Star Trek.
