heartbreaking

It’s stories like this one about a Boston girl missing since August who still hasn’t shown as of Christmas that remind me of how maybe sometimes the greatest gifts of the holidays can go unnoticed or at least insufficiently appreciated. I did give thanks to be with my wife and cat, that we’re generally pretty healthy, and that we don’t have to worry too much about money, but it wasn’t til I read this article just now, about …

christmas

Happy Holidays, everyone! I hope everyone’s having as nice a Christmas as Gwen and I are. The long weekend’s about half over, and we’ve had a great start. Last night we opened one present early, as has always been the tradition in my family (Gwen, as a christmas-impaired Jew, usually winds up having to follow my leads on these tradition things). And that first gift was… GUITAR HERO! Been having a lot of fun rawkin out! We’ve also recently stocked up on some DVD’s, so when our hands were bloody from shredding the licks …

pass the chronicles

The Chronicles of Narnia Rap is actually funny, despite having come from Saturday Night Live.

Affectionate references to NYC, the Beastie Boys, Google Maps, and, well, other stuff. It’s funny. Watch it. You’ll be glad you did.

UPDATE 12.25.05: the video is now available as a free download from the iTMS (but you do have to have an iTunes account).

Caveat Motor

Not too long ago, Thanksgiving weekend as a matter of fact, some friends were coming into town and I was looking around online for a place where we could all meet for dinner. One place I’ve always wanted to try is Maggiano’s in Boston’s Theater District. While searching for the exact location, I came across this perfect example of why it’s so easy to get lost driving in Boston. You think this is funny. You think you’re the one person who …

mmmmm… aborted duck fetus….

You probably don’t want to click on this if you:

have a weak stomach,
are at work,
are eating, or
think baby animals are cute widdow gumdrops that nothing bad should ever happen to.

Because on the other side of that link is a photographic, and I do mean GRAPHIC, journey through the adventure of eating balut. Well, ok, the eating isn’t actually shown, just the extraction of the fetus from the eggshell. Ugh. Just typing that sentence makes me want to hurl.

If you’re still not sure if you want to see the pics, you can read a detailed description …

eerie

So it looks like somebody better figure out a better way to regulate the markets, when a typo can damage one of Japan’s largest financial houses to the tune of 30 billion yen and trigger an international financial crisis.

Government: Maybe we should watch over you, you could hurt yourself.
Markets: No, i’m fine ash-hole. I can do it - i can do it myshelf!
Government: You can barely stand.
Markets: YOU ASH-HOLE GOVINMENT JERK! I TOLE YOU I’M DO IT MY SHELLLLLLLF! *collapses*

glad that’s over

Gwen’s been away visiting Cat in Albany this weekend, and I’ve taken the opportunity of her absence to take care of a few things I can’t do as easily when she’s around. You know, stuff like…chasing the cat around the house with a spray bottle of ice-water… hosting a kegger with all the fly honeyz in my hood… and… watching Episodes II and III of the Star Wars series.

This is going to be a short review.

Background: I was a fan of the first trilogy that came out, not a big fan, but a fan. Over the …

flesh pressers

Flesh, seething, roiling masses of it.

A little nsfw, needless to say. But just a little. Honest.

Say it with me, in the Homer Simpson voice: “Mmmmmm…. nipples….

And then make that funny drooly sound.

egregious chicanery

Just have to vent. Yes, I will continue the story begun in this blog’s previous entry, BUT I just have to get this off my chest.

A few weeks ago, our wireless router self-destructed, and so I’ve been shopping around for a replacement. The up side to this has been having a reason to go out and get a router that’s got WPA encryption. The last one we had, the lowly D-Link DI-614+ only had WEP, which, I’ve since discovered, is only mildly more effective at blocking interception of our signal than, say, no encryption at all.

But what …
