less ronald next time, more barney

So, in violation of Hey-You’re-Over-30 Protocol 11041/4b.c, I used some of this to color my hair this past Wednesday.

It happened this way.

Gwen and I were in a one of Boston’s, let’s see, TWO alterna-fashion outlets (it isn’t even that alterna, every third item has that stupid fucking Paul Frank monkey on it), and I saw it on the shelf. In the jar, it looked exactly like one of my favorite colors, sort of a burgundy/blood/scorpion kinda color. Mostly I’ve never liked super fakey colors for daily wear type hair type stuff, but for this color I was …

extremely awesome mit hawkcam

Those crazy MIT Beavers have set up another hawk-cam this year. If you’ve got a fast connection (450kbps), you can watch live streaming video of a hawk mama in her nest with her two cute fuzzy carnivorous chicks. They eat a lot, and what they eat isn’t exactly pretty to look at. Right now it looks like a rat or rabbit or baby possum or something like that. If that doesn’t gross you out too much, you are going to love this!

if you don’t know…

Me, on the phone, at the help desk: “Ok, why don’t you send an email to yourself to test the account?”

Userclient pauses a moment, then responds,

“How do I do that?”

explain that again

Soooo…there was this interesting and unusual problem in the help desk case queue, and from the write-up it sounded like the case could be resolved with a phone call and some carefully selected questions. I telephoned the client, and, since the case was already a day old, asked if she was still having the issue she reported yesterday.

The client replied in a thick German accent, with a bit of kookly eccentric old lady thrown in,

“Oh no, dot’s fine now. You know vat de problem vuz? De problem vuz dat it vuz an older cermputer and dot …

heads up, puzzle lovers!

Yes, I’m using this blog to run another unpaid advertisement for a couple of corporate giants. This time I just wanna tip everyone off to Google’s Da Vinci Code Quest, a marketing tie-in between Sony Pictures and Google Everything Else. Could be fun! We’ll see on April 17th, when THE QUEST BEGINS.

Say…anyone out there doing (or done) anything with Perplex City? Cuz that looks like it might be kinda cool too.

(Incidentally, I’m probably the only person left on the planet who hasn’t yet read this book. It’s only been …

just a quick question

Anyone have any idea WHY Apple decided to make their new NYC flagship store look almost exactly like the Holy Ka’bah?

MIT kicks cannonical ass

No that’s not a typo. MIT stole CalTech’s antique cannon, transported it a few thousand miles, and adorned it (some might say PWN3D it) with a Brass Rat. I found about it this AM through the Slashdot article, but then had a hard time loading the MIT web page with the pictures (it done got slashdotted of course). So I emailed jotong who was hosting the pictures on her little corner of Athena and asked if she would mind if I “mirrored” them on Flickr. …

for my fellow mail.app 2.0 users

Just found and installed and tested Attachment Scanner Plugin for Mail.app. This great little piece of software sits in the background waiting for you to send mail that looks like it should have an attachment and stops and warns you if you try to send it without the attachment. For someone who’s done this more times than he can count, this is a long-awaited boon.

Just spreading the goodness.
