Very utmost first of all, thanks to Asphodel for introducing me, musically speaking, to Vienna Teng, whose show we saw last night, along with the incomparable Jmorzins, at the Regatta Bar in Harvard Square. Her music is hard to describe, not quite folk, not quite jazz, yet a little bit of both, with little occasional hints of dub. I miss burgoo and derby pie, 3am dinners of hash browns and milkshakes at the Tally-ho (and the backward clock that hung there), the sound of a free game and all the other sound effects from the Hurricane pinball game (”Uh-oh! Looks like rain!”), the lovely little Carnegie library and the pedophilic fantasy statue in the park behind it, Transylvania’s stately modesty (and breathtaking beauty in the fall), White Mountain, Baptists, Skyline Chili, the dead downtown “malls”.

Is it just me, or is anyone else finding Firefox 2 on Mac OS 10.4 almost completely unusable? Does Firefox suck now? Every time I try to use it for something these days (I mostly use the Apple-provided Safari), I wind up giving up in disgust. The History function is cryptic if not completely fubared. For no reason at all, sometimes Firefox will relocate the window I’m working in, so that it’s half off the screen… and not let me drag it back. I have a five inch wide bruise with about 3/4 inch of swelling on my left forearm, about six inches down from my pinky finger. It’s painful to the touch and looks like I must have thwocked it but good. I just noticed it and have no idea how I got it. What exactly does my body do when I’m not paying attention?
