Ok, I’m a day late on this, and for that I apologize, because I know this is where the free world comes for its Hollywood press events, but the trailer for Watchmen has gone live and is ready for your viewing pleasure. Just from the trailer alone, I can tell that it’s a very, very faithful adaptation without being an unimaginative regurgitation. Here’s hoping. I’ve only been waiting about twenty years for this movie, after all.

Joss Whedon’s new thing, Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog looks like it might be one of the bestest things ever. EVAR. Ok so I’ve only watched the 90 seconds of song-video posted at the review I’ve linked you to here, but it looks great. Plus… Nat Fillion! Surprise! In a Joss Whedon project! UPDATE: I just finished watching the entire first episode, and I do think it’s very good… but… I just wish someone would explain to Joss that camp is only ever found, never made. Other than that though, very sweet introduction, great duet of three at the end. Watch it if you can.

I predict that tomorrow is going to be one of those days where people are going to keep asking me, “Hey did you __________ ?” and the only true answer will be, “No, I’m sorry I haven’t had time to ___________ yet,” and there’ll be that imperfectly-masked instant of disbelief, as though if I’d really wanted to ______, surely I would have made or found the time? Does anyone believe anyone when they say this anymore? I’m not sure I do, so of course, purely because I myself don’t believe other people, sometimes I’ll say, “No, I literally, seriously totally have not had a free 15 minutes since you asked me to _______. Every minute has been occupied since then?” Which only sounds lamer, and yet, lame-o that I often am, I still say it on occasion. And anyway, I mean, like, I could have stayed up a half hour longer last night and _________ed couldn’t I have? I mean, would that have killed me? No, but thinking this way about everything, that probably will kill me. Surely I can fit in just this one more thing today/tomorrow/this week. What am I, some kind of wussypants? That will probably be my last thought as I slide into the oxygen-deprived oblivion of coronary arrest.

The last time I was at Star Market, Porter Square, I spent fifteen minutes carefully combing every square inch of the soda aisle, walking up and down it, reading the name of each product to myself, making sure I wasn’t missing anything. Eventually the weird and ugly truth proved inescapable. There was blue Faygo, Moxie, RC Cola, and Polar Seltzer Dry Cranberry Pomegranate Fewferaw, but there wasn’t even a space on the retail shelving for Dr Pepper. What. The. Fuck.

What’s it sound like when someone gets their tires slashed? Because I think that’s what just happened across the street, but I don’t have a good view of the car to tell for sure. UPDATE, THE NEXT DAY: Yep, that’s what happened alright. The SUV also got all it’s windows destroyed…apparently very quietly since I heard the tires being slashed but not the windows being broken. My neighborhood is kind of scary sometimes.

Last night, at around 10:30 or 11:00, The Miss Daisybelle cautiously came into the living room, eyes big as saucers, pupils dilated to nearly perfect circles. She’d take a step, freeze, look around a bit in a nervous, darting, twitchy way, then take a few more steps, freeze, and repeat. “Daisy?” I inquired, which caused her to freeze, lower her head, and back up a step. She looked like she was being tormented on all sides by invisible beings that only she could see. She looked like a longtime heroin addict suddenly cut off with the jitteriness, and the alarmedness, but it was the looking around that worried me most. Here was clearly a cat that had just been tormented or persecuted and was just as clearly expecting more at any second, from which direction she knew not.

It took me a while to figure this one out.

Daisy and I live one block away from Trum Field, where Somerville has its annual fireworks display. When they started, I did notice Daisy spook a little, and then run away. I was engrossed in a game and spent the next 30 minutes doing my best to ignore the absolutely earsplitting concussions detonating about a thousand yards away. It wasn’t easy but when they ended, I was so engrossed in the game, that I completely forgot that the fireworks had happened.

Daisy…. not so much. About 45 minutes of calm quiet had to pass before she finally came out from under the bed (I presume, as this is where she usually hides when she’s scared). I knew I couldn’t have really done much to ease her freakout during the barrage, but I still felt terrible. I showered her with treats, which she gladly accepted, but which also didn’t do much for her jitters. I got out the laser pointer toy and played with that with her for a while, and that seemed to be just the thing. She was still slightly twitchier than normal, but obviously not quite as consumed by paranoia, not quite the same cat in a room full of exploding rocking chairs that she’d been when first she crawled out from her hiding place.

The poor thing!
